The Worlds Biggest Criminal (Osama bin Laden) Essay
The Worlds Biggest Criminal (Osama bin Laden) - Essay Example The reason why Osama bin Laden was hailed as an international criminal and terrorist was because he had been involved in setting up the banned outfits Al-Qaeda and the attached wing Taliban. What these groups brought to the fore was massive killing of people all around the globe (Searcey 2011). Their number one priority was to make sure that the so-called Muslim preaching was made significant yet they conducted their own attacks, all in the name of the religion of Islam. Osama bin Laden, along with his close aides was able to gather a great amount of hate all over the world for these activities. I am of the view that once Osama bin Laden was caught, he should not have been killed since he was unarmed. As he has slaughtered thousands of people worldwide, it would have been better had he been captured alive. If this was done, the number one criminal would have been taken to the United States where criminal proceedings shall have been held. But this was not to be, and Osama bin Laden wa s killed which essentially closed the chapter once and for all. Since he was required by the US government dead or alive, the US Navy SEALs only found it appropriate to kill him and then take his body forward. I do not think this served the purpose since his death did not teach people a lesson as his capturing alive would have. His conviction would have sent a totally unique message to all the criminals and terrorists all over the globe.
What happens after we die Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1250 words
What happens after we die - Essay Example In the modern times, people became interested with its occurrence that they applied science to test about the life after death. Some peer-reviewed studies had found such memories in children but they remained non-conclusive because no tests were sufficient to measure it.It was even doubted greatly by skeptic scientists. The life after death seems to be hard to be proven. It may or may not exist. Some naturalists may just say that life will just cease once biological death approaches and consciousness will fade too. It only means that the concept of the soul is even under debate if it truly exists or not. Personally, I may think of the concept of life after death as subjective because various people have different notions regarding it. It is still not proven by science until now. For the paper regarding the life after death, the focus would be on the work of Joseph Pieper, the author of Leisure: The Basis of Culture. Pieper was a philosopher from Germany who was the primary proponent of the New Thomistic wave as a philosophy since he is part of the Catholic Church. Joseph Pieper learned various fields in social science from sociology to philosophy from popular universities. He had worked as a writer and sociologist until he pursued being a professor in the University of Munster where he also studied. His perspective was influenced greatly by the ways of Thomas Aquinas together with the ideologies of the Greek philosopher Plato. In the first chapter which is entitled The Philosophical Act, Pieper was very philosophical. The meaning was so deep in the chapter where he talked about the common good and the common need (Pieper 78). He might want to tell something about how philosophy can cause disturbance but it was left to the reader to identify what kind of disturbance did Pieper want to convey to the readers. Probably he tried to connect the philosophy of common good and common needs as people go for the utilitarian world filled with work to satisfy the needs to s urvive. I can see his point regarding the philosophy that he promotes. Nowadays consumer culture is prevalent and sometimes it goes beyond the necessity. As a result, crimes increase, imbalance in nature is observed and destruction of the environment is noticeable and all of them happen in the name of greed. People live on the outside world and I may not say that I am not part of it. Sometimes being too busy with the supply and demand, people become accustomed to the materialistic world where all that matters is the functional basis of living and things are compartmentalized. Probably Pieper did not say that it is bad to engage in such a world or system but he wanted to also point out the importance of the oneness or the unity of people despite of differences. It is even linked to the practice of spending the seventh day of the week as a break from work and worship God. For him, it is also an essential component in life that even transcends beyond the common needs which the utilitar ian world provides. It only shows that the common need is a subset of the common good because the latter is more complex which requires something beyond the physical and material needs. December 1, 2012: Leisure: The Basis of Culture Chapters One and Two Another thing that Pieper pointed out was the definition of leisure. Sometimes culture had dictated what leisure is but actually the roots of leisure is seen when people are at work. They are busy. He also pointed out that leisure should involve not just the mechanistic or functional way of doing things without having time for rest or not serious activities. Sometimes work becomes not so engaging and people just do what they are doing for the sake of doing it. It is in contrast with what Pieper had said that work can be leisure if people have the time to reflect or contemplate. He pushed the idea of having enjoyment and appreciation on what is being done. Personally, the writer of the reaction paper thinks of it as an art

Retail Marketing - Essay Example Marketing dictates the ability of a retail company to grow. The concern of this paper is to investigate the retail marketing of A&F by evaluating the following areas merchandise range and assortment, marketing communication, store layout, design and visual merchandising, customer, and retail mix among other aspects that have led to the growth of the retail company. Merchandise Range and Assortment A&F began its clothing retail by concentrating on clothes for age range 18 to 22, today the trend has changed and the retail company has brought a wide range of merchandise products in its stores (Funding Universe. 2012:1). The stores in Warwick United Kingdom do not only address the needs of the above age range, but also have brought products for other age ranges. The company retail history reveals that the merchandise stores of the company started with attires geared for sporting adventures, and fishing adventures. The company credits its merchandise ideas to the early ventures in all sta ffs required for sporting for the above age range. The focus of the retail company today promotes the American wear, which includes underwear, jackets, swimming shorts, vintage polos, and T-shirts (Funding Universe, 2012:1). Other assortments include shirts and sweaters, pajamas, scarves, belts and other assortments, which are styled with the American fashion. A&F has recognised the need to create stylish apparels, which can attract the young age as well as the middle and old age (Hephaestus Books, 2011:120). The assortment for women and men come in different styles. For instance, shirts have various sleeves techniques; some are short, long, curling, or sleeveless. The range also caters for women needs by capturing the stylish pattern demanded by women in response to fashion trend. The retail company has noted difference in response characteristics, which influences its merchandise range (Funding Universe. 2012:1). For example, assortment for belts provides a wide range of styles, w hich depend on colour, mood that the intended consumer wishes to portray in the society. Sports gear reflects that the society is in the sports moods while swim costumes illustrate swimming mood. For examples, some belts are slim with big buckles while others have stylish buckles, which suit the diverse needs of the consumer. It is important to note the customer behaviour for the targeted merchandise planning. Market analysts believe that merchandise assortment must target a given target population if the retail business intends to succeed (Dunne, et.al. 2010:129). A&F have applied the same argument to locate is stores targeting specific consumers. Beauty is a factor of concern for the store because the target age bracket 18 to 22 has many expectations in life. The dream of their world differs from the views of the old age. For examples, dressing crazy or the American wear fashion speaks of the great adventures that the age range seeks to display in the society. Shapes are crucial t o the merchandising range for this store. The retail has provision for slender or slim to heavy built bodies. Some people like free fitting apparel while others like tight fitting clothes. The brand category offered in the store does not only favour the immediate age but also targets to influence other range. For example, the idea of brand variety offers a wide opportunity for the consumers to choose. A single, brand limits consumers from choosing the products, which the stores has. Studies have

Management Is Doing Things Right; Leadership Is Doing The Right Things Essay
Management Is Doing Things Right; Leadership Is Doing The Right Things - Essay Example His distinction between management and leadership has been a popular topic for debate for several years now.Leadership acts as a tool in settling on the best course of action to take- what are the things that should be done to reach our targets? But according to Druckerââ¬â¢s philosophy, leadership is strong and successful when the leader thinks through questions like ââ¬ËOf those things that would make a difference, which are right for me? By ââ¬Ëdoing the right thingsââ¬â¢, he meant that effective leadership is considering the companyââ¬â¢s mission, describing it and openly establishing it. It is a leaderââ¬â¢s job to set clear goals for the company and define the standards needed to be maintained while achieving the goals. Being aware that he is not in control of the universe, he has to make compromises. This, however, he does once he has thought of the right and the desirable. Drucker defines leadership as mundane, unromantic and boring. Its essence lies in perf ormance. Effective leaders keep on checking their performance against the achievement of their goals. This practice helps them to analyse their choices and decide on what is important and needs immediate attention. It also assists them in identifying their strengths and recognizing their weaknesses. Regarding this, Drucker says: ââ¬ËI have seen a great many people who are exceedingly good at execution, but exceedingly poor at picking the important things. They are magnificent at getting the unimportant things done. They have an impressive record of achievement on trivial matters.ââ¬â¢ Setting the right kind of goals plays a significant role in developing a successful leader. It is of extreme importance to set realistic achievable goals which fit in with the overall mission, keeping in mind the external constraints such as political, economical, and financial and internal constraints such as the current resources available and the interpersonal issues. In accordance with this s tatement of his, lies the aspect of responsibility within leadership. Rank and privilege is not the core to leadership. It is, in fact, the sense of responsibility that the leader feels and exhibits that represents strong and reliable leadership. Hence, a successful leader is one who takes initiative to tackle a task and uses the given resources optimally to derive maximum benefit. Drucker claims Americaââ¬â¢s chief of army staff in World War II, General George Marshall, became a productive leader through responsibility and diligence. Such kinds of leaders do not fear the self-determined subordinates. Instead, they encourage their juniors, assisting them to reach their potential and accomplish all that they are capable of. Being ambitious for a leader is far smaller a risk than being mediocre. An effective leader is also aware of the consequence that organizations face in case of the leaderââ¬â¢s impeachment. In regard to this, Drucker rightly says: ââ¬ËAn effective leader knows that the ultimate task of leadership is to create human energies and human visionââ¬â¢ Drucker at one point stresses over the effectiveness that every leader is expected to possess. Be it in a government agency, a hospital, a business, a labour union, a university or army, a leader seems to bear high intelligence and imagination only seconds it. Yet he lacks the vital link between his effectiveness and his intelligence, imagination or knowledge. However, many leaders come in contact with the dangerous near successes traps which usually revolve around the mindset
